Series on Race will Conclude this Thursday with “Christianity and Race”

Our Racism in America Speaker Series concludes with Rev. Dr. Matt Hadley, Sr. Pastor of UMCWFB and Rev. Dan Dick, Assistant to the Bishop, WI UMC presenting “Christianity and Race.”

They describe their presentation as follows:

“Jesus quoted the prophet Isaiah at the temple; “For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.” The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Galatia; “For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” You would think that the Christian church as a whole would be at the forefront in the work to abolish racism, and yet, as a whole, our track record is less than stellar.

Our presentation will focus on the history of racism in the church here in America, the Social Principles stance on racism in the United Methodist Church, Bishop Hee-Soo Jung’s “Dismantling Racism” initiative, and the different views and responses to racism in The United Methodist Church in the Northern and the Southern hemispheres.”
